His father leaves the estate and title to Eddie rather than Freddy. The new Duke discovers that the Glass organization runs a substantial cannabis operation beneath the property. His initial objective is to protect his family and end the arrangement, not to take over a drug empire.[1][2][3]
Eddie Horniman
Played by Theo James
A soldier and the Duke’s second son, Eddie expects to return to a life outside the family estate. Instead, he inherits Halstead and discovers that its finances are entangled with an underground cannabis operation.
Biography
The Gentlemen
Season 1
Reveal Season 1 story spoilers
By the finale, Eddie and Susie work together to remove rival bidders and invest in Bobby’s business. Eddie also kills Henry Collins. The season ends with a man who wanted an exit choosing a much deeper commitment to criminal power.[2]
Season 2
Reveal Season 2 story spoilers
A year after joining the Glass business, Eddie is no longer looking for an exit. He and Susie expand into northern Italy while he pursues influence inside the British establishment. He secretly plans to profit from marijuana decriminalization, despite Bobby’s orders to stop it. The scheme collapses when Lord Hawthorne dies, and Bobby has Eddie beaten and left in a shallow grave. Eddie survives, obtains financing from Stanley Johnston, and builds a new alliance through Bella and Marco Moretti. He genuinely falls in love with Bella and marries her at Lake Maggiore, only to see her seaplane explode hours later. After the subsequent attack on Halstead, Eddie tortures the surviving mercenary Bravo One into implicating Bobby and commissions a prison assassination. Stanley’s disclosure that Bobby bought Eddie’s debt exposes the mistake; Eddie and Susie reach the prison in time to help save Bobby. The trail instead leads to Gospel John and Freddy. Eddie spares his brother but forces him to kill Gospel John with a chainsaw, turning vengeance into a brutal assertion of control.[14][15]
Personality
Reveal story spoilers
Eddie initially approaches the family crisis as a soldier solving a difficult problem. His stated desire to protect the Hornimans gradually coexists with a taste for command and criminal power. His manipulation of the bidding contest and execution of Henry make his increasing ruthlessness visible in actions, not simply in other characters’ warnings about him.[1][2]
Physical Appearance
Reveal story spoilers
Eddie first appears in military clothing and returns home in functional outdoor wear. His wardrobe gradually becomes more tailored, ending in bespoke suits. Bontemps explicitly designed this transition to accompany his movement from soldier to gentleman gangster; the clothes are part of the character’s changing self-presentation.
Season 2 uses braces, structured coats and polished shoes, with looser Italian tailoring and red accents chosen to signal power and anger. The opening shoot features bespoke plus-12 shooting trousers.[12][16]
