An opponent of drug reform whose concern for her son becomes political leverage.

The published TVmaze appearance record lists Bishop Thorne in Episode 2x04, all in Season 2, and records no Season 1 credit. This is the scope of that retrieved credit record; no unseen Season 1 activities or earlier-life events are invented here.[4]

Season 2

Reveal Season 2 story spoilers

Eddie approaches the bishop arguing that decriminalization has social and economic benefits. She resists, but he then offers help with Oscar’s dangerous debts. She explains that she has already given him the money she could and has refused further demands. Eddie’s intervention with Oscar becomes the route to securing the votes his scheme needs. The plan is subsequently undone by Hawthorne’s death and the resulting reversal among the peers.[1][2]

Personality

Her resistance is grounded in an expressly stated anti-drug position, not simple ignorance of the issue. The contrast between that public stance and her willingness to consider help for Oscar shows how family distress can make a principled political opponent vulnerable to leverage.[1][2]

Notes

TVmaze credits Jane Horrocks as the Bishop of Sussex; Wikipedia calls the character Bishop Thorne. Both refer to Oscar’s mother, not to two separate bishops.[1][2]
